Bitterlemon Rosemary Gin Smash

A twist on a classic gin and tonic using bitter lemon soda and rosemary.

Let's talk gin drinks for a second before getting into this magic concoction. Gin and tonic is one of your two basic gin drinks. The other is a gin martini (the original). Tonic in it's original state (not cheap soda tonic, but really quinine tonic). Today the gin and tonic is being re-imagined into Spanish Gin and tonics with aromatics and GOOD tonic is more available than ten years ago.

My favorite brand is Fever Tree. Readily available this gem of a company is bringing back traditional cocktail mixers. One of those which tops my favorites is Bitter Lemon. Basically it's crazy delicious tonic with lemon. It's sweet, bitter, lemony and delicious all on its own. This is the key to this drink, and I highly suggest you buy a pack. So you take bitter lemon soda, the aromatic trend in gin and tonics and fresh lovely citrus and gin and you have magic. Let me tell you. These are easy to drink, lovely in flavor and a modern and different way to approach a gin drink.

INGREDIENTS

Fever Tree Bitter Lemon

2 oz. Gin

1 Rosemary Sprig

2-3 Lemon Slices

1/2 oz Agave Syrup

INSTRUCTIONS

Start by adding your agave syrup, lemon slices (quartered) and rosemary sprig in a glass and muddle. You really just need to break down the lemon and get the rosemary nice and squished so the flavor comes out.

Add ice to your glass, add gin and top with Fever Tree Bitter Lemon. You can add a little or a lot. For a lighter flavored drink use half bitter lemon and half sparkling water. Garnish with lemon and bring your rosemary sprig to the top, add a fun straw and enjoy!
